Sally Mann
Today, I want to put an essay of mine about a very talented photographer called Sally Mann.
Sally Mann discovers her litttle models after her daughter comes to her with this kind of a look:)
Her children: Virginia, Emmet and Jessie
Her daughter.
“IMMEDIATE FAMILY”
“Immediate Family” is the name of Sally Mann’s exhibition that has opened in 1992, at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia . Then, she was 41 years old, and was not famous as she is today. Photographs that she exhibited were taken in 1984 to 1991, Virginia , which focused on the childhoods of her own children; Jessie , Virginia and Emmet. However she thought that her images were “little more than tender, maternal photographs of her children” (http://www.americansuburbx.com/), they created a scandal. Controversy to her aims and thoughts, people criticized her photographs as child pornography.
She first discovered her perfect models after one of her children came with a blown up eye to her. She immediately took her photograph as she was, which is a very effective and a unique photograph, because she had caught the moment and her child’s feeling as they are, in a very natural way. Also its softness and putting the model at the center with a close shoot, without any background makes it even more effective. We know that she continued to take her children’s photographs for more than 10 years. She sometimes used their nude bodies, in her shoots, too, which is the reason why people criticized her work as pornography and thought that she was indecent. But, in fact her real goal was to show her children’s real or fictional lives. Mostly her images were from their ordinary lives from a mother’s view point. It is known that every mother sees their children nude, with a blown up eye or with a bloody nose. These are natural things, for me. Also I think that Sally Mann is very courageous to show her own family’s ordinary lives, because people were not used to see these kinds of things, then. For example, nobody wanted to see a nude child, because it was labeled as pornography, but she did not care about everybody; she had the power to change some people’s view points, because the way she looked was vey different and pure.

Stars
Marilyn Monroe, Anna Karina, Brigitte Bardot...They were all actors, they were all great and real stars and when we look at their old photos, we see them still fashionable with their hair style, clothes and make up. At least I feel like that. I think that they'll always look fashionable and beautiful to all generations.

What a Coincidence!
On November, I went to Antalya during bayram with my family. The place that we went in Antalya was great, that was located in the center. Anyway I'll put some photos that I had taken there later, but before I want to put a photography from Antalya Museum, where I went with my friend Ayşe, who is form Antalya.
This is Ayşe and a bust. Now, look at the other photo! I saw the other photo after my trip to Antalya and I thought that this is very interesting.
This photo is Gabriel Harrison's. Helia hugging the Bust of George Washington, 1845, Daguerreotype.
What a coincidence:)

Jeff Koons
Jeff Koons is a really important designer/artist in art world. He is known for his reproduction in banal objects, such as balloon animals produced in stainless steel with mirror finish surfaces. His works are being sold for very expensive amounts. Some people see his work as pioneering and of major-art historical importance, and some dismiss his work as kitsch: crass and based on self-merchandising. For my opinion, he is really creative and different. I love his work.
Also I found a link, explaining a video game, which targets to kill Koons and his art work.

Oh my god!!!Ridiculous!

Moova
In Turkey, we have a new milk brand named "Moova", that I first discovered while I was watching advertisements on the television. I thought that it was very different form the other milk brands' advertisements. It is a very colorful advertisement with a lot of purple and orange in it. The cows are not real cows nor with their real colors. They look like they have cut from orange cartoons. This is why I bought a cartoon of milk last week and I really liked the taste and the design of the cartoon! I was actually not drinking milk a lot for a very long time, but with Moova, I want to drink milk. This is not a commercial for Moova;)
Mary Blair
21 October was Mary Blair' 100th anniversary. She was a very talented and inspirational illustrator and a Google doodle was designed for her on 21 October 2011 to commemorate it, so I decided to put some of her marvellous works. She have made illustrations for Disney, which made her famous. The first photograph is Mary Blair, her self. Above, is the Google doodle.

Istanbuldesignweek
Istanbul Design Week 2011 has finished, today. I've been there (Old Galata Bridge) and it was very inspirational for me with a lot of creative design. There were mostly Dutch designers' and Turkish designers' works.
This design named "Tulpi" is actually a public chair, but first of all you have to open the petal of the tulip to sit on it:) I think this design is so smart.
